Your words The time capsule

Write a letter to a year you may not see.

Say what today feels like. Choose when it should be opened. Seal it, and it waits here on your device, ready to be reread, exported as a text file, or handed to someone you trust.

Any year from 2027 to 2140.

Stuck on the first line? Ask for a prompt, or begin with what is on the table in front of you.

Sealing stores the letter in this browser only. It is a ritual, not a vault: it is not encrypted, so please do not write passwords or secrets.

Waiting here

Your sealed letters

The mailbox is empty, and that is fine.

When you seal a letter it appears here with the year it is waiting for. You can come back to it today, next decade, or whenever this browser still remembers.

Good to know

How the capsule works, and where it stops

What “sealed” means here

A sealed letter is saved in your browser’s local storage together with the year you chose. The seal is symbolic: you can reread a letter at any time, and a banner reminds you when you are reading earlier than you planned. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no account that could be recovered.

What can make a letter vanish

Clearing site data, using a private window, switching browsers or devices, or a full disk can all remove or hide your letters. If a browser blocks storage, the page tells you and keeps the letter only until you close the tab. Exporting a .txt copy is the one reliable backup.

Choosing the year

The year must be a whole number after this one and no later than 2140. Years outside that range, decimals and blank entries are politely refused. The wait shown beside the wax seal is simple subtraction from today’s date on your device, so it follows your device clock.

Limits and edge cases

A letter can hold up to 8,000 characters, around fifteen hundred words. Empty letters cannot be sealed. Your draft is autosaved as you type, so an accidental refresh will not cost you a paragraph, and the page can be cleared with one button.

Passing a letter on

Exported files are plain text with a short header: who signed, when it was sealed and which year it was meant for. Print them, email them to yourself, or tuck them into a family folder labelled with the year. A paper copy can outlast a screen.

A word on tone

Letters to 2140 tend to improve when they stay concrete. Skip predictions you cannot stand behind and say what you hope instead. If you do guess about the future, say that you are guessing; the reader will trust the rest more.
