Small print, in plain words

Questions people ask first

Where are my letters stored?

Only in your own browser, in a place called local storage. They are not uploaded, not encrypted and not backed up. If you clear site data or switch devices they will not follow you, which is why the capsule offers an export to a plain text file.

Can you recover a letter I lost?

No. We never receive your letters, so there is nothing for us to recover. Keep exported copies somewhere sensible: a printed page in a family folder is surprisingly durable.

Why is everything labelled as speculation?

Because nobody knows what 2140 holds, including us. Labels keep stories honest and make it easier to disagree with them. The only things not labelled that way are your own words and sums that can be checked by hand.

Are you connected to any company, agency or cryptocurrency project?

No. Year 2140 is an independent project. When a page mentions a published rule, such as the issuance schedule of Bitcoin, it does so as general background and for no commercial reason, and nobody named here has reviewed or endorsed this site.

Can I use the pages with a class or a group?

Yes, please do. Printing a page for a lesson or a family evening is fine, and the scenario cards were written to be argued with. If you want to reuse the wording somewhere else, send a note first and tell us how it will be presented.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes. Every page, image and calculation is a local file with no outside requests, so once the files are on your device the whole site works offline. The only thing that needs a connection is sending an email from your mail app.
